I’ve always loved and owned the m3 platform since I was able to afford one. Starting from my 2008 e90 M3. But my favorite so far is the F8X platform- so much so that I just had to get the same car, twice. Well I should say similar, because when the competition model F80 came out, I placed in my order immediately and received delivery of a beautiful 2016 F80 m3 ZCP in Yas Marina Blue, I enjoyed the car for about 3 years with the intent of keeping it till it’s wheels fall off. But when BMW announced the F80 CS, I thought if I was going to keep the car might as well have the best version of it, and so that’s what I did. But it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be as we all know, cars like these don’t really appreciate or even hold value. My sticker price on my Yas m3 was 83k, 3 years later my highest trade in value offer was 43k. That’s 40k worth of depreciation in just 3 years, 17k miles. I nearly gave up on getting the CS because it would be just plain idiotic to get a car for the price of 2. But then in early 2019, my dealership called me and informed me of the ridiculous discounts they are doing on the remaining m3 CS’ on the lot. That’s when I started shopping my car around aggressively than ever, I tried selling private party, carmax, you name it I’ve tried to no avail. Until my dealership eventually sold the last f80 Cs they had on the lot in a beautiful Black Sapphire Mettalic exterior and that very distinct 2 tone black and white F80 CS interior. And again, my hopes were down and was ready to give up till I found the last M3 CS in SoCal located in San Diego. I called them and told them what kind of car I have for trade in and what value I want for it and they agreed that if my description as accurate in person then they will give me the value I want, and they will give me their last remaining m3cs for $22k below sticker. This was at 9am on a Tuesday. I didn’t show up to work that day, instead I drove to San Diego with my brother, and by 5pm I found myself sitting in traffic in my brand new m3 cs in San Marino Blue BMW individual. I was grinning from cheek to cheek for a week after that. Was it all worth it? More reasons no than yes if I’m being completely honest. Would I keep the car still? I’m still on the fence with that. But with the amount of money I paid for the car, I think I’m ready to move on to Porsche once my lease is done. Oh and yea, with the amount of negative equity I had to roll into the cs from my previous f80, I had to lease the CS to be able to afford to keep filling it up with gas for me to drive. Not the smartest move I’ve done for a car that’s honestly speaking is similar to the comp pack I had, but hey. Life is too short to cut yourself short of the best, and I’m truly happy I did what I did.
